Downshire Monument
The Downshire Monument can be seen when travelling from Hillsborough to Dromora Village. A testimonial to the third Marquis, this tall and imposing fluted Doric column of dressed stone has a square base on a podium of three tall, raked steps. The Downshire Coat of Arms is inset in its base.
The third Marquis died whilst visiting his estate in Blessington, County Wicklow. His funeral procession was said to have been the longest seen in Ireland.
